BIGGER MEANS BETTER FOR ALLCOTT HIRE

Wednesday, February 25, 2015

As a growing equipment hire business, Allcott Hire has invested heavily over the past few years to meet the needs of the bigger end of the market, and has chosen to partner with JCB Construction Equipment Australia (CEA) to ensure customers get exactly what they require.

Allcott Hire Business Development Manager Adam Watson says the Allcott brand was launched in 2012 with the consolidation of three associated businesses, including Active Hire, which was the main entity and had been established for 25 years. The merger and rebranding came as a result of a lengthy partnership buy out, which left sole ownership to the husband and wife team, Mike and Dale Cotter, hence the name ‘Allcott’.

Allcott Hire employs approximately 200 staff at branches and divisions on the eastern seaboard, from the Sunshine Coast in Queensland to outer Melbourne and the ACT.

Although they serve customers from weekend DIY through to large construction companies and government agencies, Adam says there has been a strategic move to focus on larger, more specialised products.

“Our range of equipment, already one of the largest and most diverse in the industry, is constantly changing and expanding to cater to our growing customer base in construction, building maintenance, traffic management, compaction, excavation, access equipment and infrastructure projects. Our partnership with JCB CEA has assisted us to focus on a range of their larger items like excavators, rollers and telehandlers,” he says.

“We want to deliver a complete package to customers, delivering tried and tested equipment including specialised machines. Our goal is to offer customers the best range of tools, plant and equipment and the very best service and value for money in the industry.”

Allcott Hire has added a substantial number of JCB mini excavators and large compaction rollers and telehandlers to its fleet, and in partnership with JCB CEA has been able to make on-the-spot purchase decisions to meet their customers’ needs. Because JCB CEA works so closely with Allcott Hire, they are able to anticipate what orders may come in and have brand new machines delivered to client sites within 48 hours.

“We have tens of thousands of pieces of equipment on our books but sometimes customers need something very specific for a major project. JCB CEA has been working very closely with us to ensure they have stock to suit when a customer needs something special. We recently purchased a telehandler that went on hire to the organisers of the Sydney Festival.”

Adam says partnering with JCB CEA is good for his team and for Allcott Hire’s customers.

“With JCB CEA we get open communication and a good point of contact. Their techs know our key staff and they’re available at short notice when we need them.

“There will always be challenges with any supplier, but what’s important is their ability to react. Even when the error occurs at our end, we still need it fixed and that willingness to work with us has really set JCB CEA apart.

“We also know that the machines are very reliable. They’re tried and tested. The hire industry is the hardest game there is, with machines going to different worksites and different operators so we need to be sure we can give our customers machines that are sturdy and user friendly.”
